Only you have the map, only you hold the key to destination...

as the many seamen before you look to the centuries old Compass Rose to guide & direct you through the language of the winds.

Since Medieval times The Compass Rose appeared on charts and maps to indicate the cardinal directions of the winds. Originating from the Wind Rose, the Compass Rose was designed to indicate the 32 points of direction - consisting of the 8 major winds, the 8 half-winds, and the 16 quarter winds. Having no specific standard to the drafting of the Rose, other than having 32 points, each artistic depiction became the cartologists emblem - unique and original to the school of origin. The naming of the winds were also particular to region - Greek, Latin, or Italian. However, traditional diagrams of the Compass Rose show an encircling of letters that correspond to the wind names of the Mediterranean sailors: Tramontana (north), Greco (northeast), Levante (east), Siroco (southeast), Ostro (south), Libeccio (southwest), Ponente (west), and Maestro (northwest).

May you never loose sight of your direction, but always remember to make time for an unscheduled detour.
