Sister Mary KateThe Care of Leather:

Thank you for selecting an M.P. Karryall artisan-crafted bag of distinction. Leather and suede hides are the natural coverings of our fellow animals. Although we take care to cut around major flaws; rubs, brands, etc., the occational imperfection may be noticed, but is a natural occurance and adds to the unique quality of your bag.

Tips for care and cleaning of leather and suede.

Store leather and suede bags so that they can breathe. Avoid plastic bags, which prevent air circulation. M.P.Karryall bags come in a natural cotton flannel bag which is perfect for storage.

When not using keep leather and suede away from direct light, which will fade the colour; and damp conditions, which can encourage growth of damaging mold and mildew.

If suede bags get wet allow them to dry naturally; do not use a heat source to speed up the process. After the item dries, restore the nap (the raised fibers typical of suede) with a suede brush.

For stains on suede bags remove by rubbing talcum powder or cornmeal directly on the spot. After several hours, brush off the powder. Repeat if necessary.

For stains on leather bags wipe with a soft cloth. If spot needs special attention, a damp cloth or sponge soaked in lukewarm, mild soap water may be used. Dry with a woolen cloth and wait until completely air dry before using.

Keep in mind that major stains will probably require professional care. Take your bag to someone who specializes in the cleaning of leather and suede; inexperienced dry cleaners or cobblers can cause more harm than good.

Never use aggressive substances such as stain removers, cleaning solvents, turpentine, shoe polish, saddle soap, furniture polish, oils, varnish, abrasive cleaners, detergents, bleach, ammonia water, or any other type of chemical solution on your leather or suede bags.

To protect your leather use a conditioner designed specifically for leather products. Because leather and suede are natural materials they will change with use. Expect changes in the appearence of leather and suede bags as it ages. The texture and colour will mellow and soften with the absorbtion of body oils and everyday use bringing out the natural grain of leather that adds to the overall beauty of your bag.
