It was 1849 and gold fever took a hold on a man’s body like the plague. Days spent in the icy cold creek, swishing and swirling his washbowl, sifting the bed for dust, and lusting for days of avarice. The lonely, bitter nights were spent in a drunken stupor, pissing away their dreams in a bottle of whiskey and seeking solace betwixt a woman’s folds.
They say that those who followed the call of the shining ore, it was but naught a devils curse for many had sold their souls and lost the greed-full war. But Otis Dunbar, a rover by trade, road another wave for sure. He foresaw a divergent prospect and set his sights in store. Goods and wares exchanged for dust bespoke of untold wealth for making.
And so the story goes, the lust and promise of gold soon faded, but the burgeoning towns held fast. And Otis Dunbar - well he pulled his trumpet from another bag. His bag held true and grew to bulging ... so the lesson taught is stay the course, and look to keeping it sound and safe. Hold the stuff of your dreams tight in a bag and by your side or soon it will be dust.
